Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (studies),
I am a student that has finished their first year of Arts/Sci program. I am writing to you to appeal my grade in Anatomy 101 (ANAT 101) Winter Term 2014 taught by Dr. Richard Oko, Professor, and Dr. Madhuri Koti
This year was very difficult for me mentally and physically due to the harassment of my ex boyfriend and his friends. I was unable to go out in public without him cussing at me or even throwing drinks on me. This year my anxiety had reached an all time high affecting my ability to concentrate and attend lecture. Being so far away from home I felt trapped and was headed towards a downward spiral. It had consumed me in every mental and physical way possible. I was unable to eat/sleep properly and was afraid to leave my room because I felt as though my safety was jeopardized. Not being able to attend lecture and participate in lab days affected my mark tremendously due to the fact I was unable to learn the material hands and physically observe the material in the lab. This situation with my ex boyfriend started at the beginning of this year and is still going on although his outbursts are occurring less often. I decided to talk to the student counselor on campus recommended by a friend. Since then I have been able to open up about my situation and seek the resources necessary in order to solve this issue. Being a strong student in high school all my academic courses this year were affected by my situation. Especially anatomy due to the high volume intact of information and time required in learning the material. As well as the course only having 2 written tests and 2 observing tests which make up your mark. I was unable to do my best due to the fact I had not attended the lab sessions on a regular basis.
My plan for coping with my situation and reaching my full academic potential has already begun. I have opened up fully to my parents and have a therapist that I am seeing on a regular basis when I am home. Also the counselor has directed me to someone who has given me my options on dealing with this issue head on. I have big future plans for myself and would hate for this class to bring me down because of a situation out of my control. I have addressed my problem and I am gaining control of my life back and eagerly wanting to move forward as a successful student at Queen¿¿s University.
