I am petitioning for permission to drop all failed courses from Fall 2022 to Summer 2024.

In early December of 2022 I sustained a head trauma in my Kingston house while house cleaning. After noticing that the injury was not getting better, I checked in to emergency at Kingston General Hospital and was diagnosed with a concussion. Two outstanding Fall 2022 courses were impacted from that time. I came home that Christmas experiencing severe systems including headaches, blurred vision, sensory issues, speech issues and physical issues with walking. Winter term of 2023 was spent going back and forth from Kingston and Ottawa, where I was receiving treatment including Concussion Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy. During this time, I spoke to Queens Student Accessibility Services, showed proof of the condition and spoke to each of my professors and asked for time, which each one kindly did. I did not realize that even the time extensions from the professors would run out, resulting in an F for each class.

The fact that I continued to enroll and then not complete classes through 2023 forward was a sign of my dedication to my studies, and optimism that I would bounce back. I attended classes, learned the course work, but wasn’t able to write/deliver for the assignments. I am very dedicated to completing my Queen’s education, and have since come under the support of Meghan Stouffer Leuprecht from CareSupportServices at Queens. She is working with me on a plan to recover even further with a treatment team with the goal of finishing one course this Fall 2024 and fuller course load next semester.

This consideration would go a great way to allowing a chance of success in my continuing studies here at Queens.
