Petition Letter: I would like to appeal the grade that I received in BIOL 103 in the winter semester of 2014. More specifically my iclicker participation grade. I feel that my iclicker participation grade was unfairly evaluated.
In BIOL 103 your iclicker is the source that allows professors to see if you have been attending lectures or not. Each time there is a question in lecture for the class, students answer using their iclickers. Your answer is then recorded, and as a result this data is used to determine what your iclicker participation grade is.
There must have been some confusion regarding iclickers because I ened up with a different iclicker than the one I had in first semester. At the end of second semester professor snetsinger was nice enough to e-mail me on the 15th of April before putting in my final grade. He informed me that there was no code associated with my name on moodle, which was very surprising to me. On the 16th of April I e-mailed him with the iclicker code that I had. On the 17th of April he asked me if I could come see him to figure out what happened. Since I had to store and pack everything up that day i did not see his e-mail until the next day. I replied by asking if I could come see him on the 19th before I had to leave. Sadly, because I am from Vancouver I had already booked my bus and flight so I had to leave on the 19th of April before he was back in his office. I did, however, give my iclicker to a friend to deliver it to him. He then replied 5 days later saying she could come and give it to him on friday April 25th. Unfortunately, it was too late. She left on the 21st. Due to the 24 hour departure policy of residences at queens, she was not able to give it to him either. I have multiple sources that can confirm that i was at almost every lecture this past semester.
The reason why I have not appealed until now, is because i have been e-mailing my professor and he has not responded. I was waiting for a response but I still have not received one regarding my iclicker participation grade. As a result I would like to ask for an extension on the appeal deadline.
I have been put on academic probation with a GPA of 1.540. As a result I have been removed from my orientation week position. I anticipate that if this appeal was granted I would be above the minimum GPA requirement and be reinstated.
