Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Members of the Academic Petition Committee,

I am writing to formally request permission to drop my German 101 class for the Fall 2024 semester. I understand the importance of maintaining academic responsibilities, but I have found myself in an overwhelming situation due to the demands of my academic program and unforeseen challenges.

As a student enrolled in the Life Sciences program, my course load this semester included several highly demanding classes such as Calculus, Physics and Biology. Balancing these rigorous courses with the additional challenge of learning a new language proved to be more difficult than I had anticipated. While I was initially enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn German, I soon realized that I was in over my head. The pace and depth of the material far exceeded my current abilities, which made it difficult to keep up with the coursework and assessments.

Recognizing my struggles, I reached out to my professor, Dr. Christiane Arndt, for guidance. After discussing my performance and concerns, the professor kindly advised me to consider dropping the class before the final exam to protect my overall academic standing. Taking this advice into account, I believe that withdrawing from the course is the most responsible decision for my academic progress.

I have done my best to manage my commitments and seek additional support throughout the semester, including attending office hours and studying independently. However, despite my efforts, the cumulative pressures of my course load and the language barrier have negatively impacted my ability to succeed in this class. Dropping the course would allow me to focus on my core Life Sciences courses and maintain the quality of my performance in other areas.

I sincerely hope that you understand my situation and will approve my request to drop this course. I appreciate your time and consideration, and I am happy to provide any additional documentation, including my correspondence with the professor, if necessary.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,
Marcus Dixon
