Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To Associated Dean of Studies of Arts and Science,
I am writing this letter to make an appeal for my past years academics. Due to many consecutive health issues and stress I feel that this past 2014-2015 academic year was not shown to the best of my ability. This appeal is to drop the two courses (Musc103, Musc127) which I have failed this year and replace that failed mark with a DR. With a very unfamiliar environment and with no family member close by it was very hard adjusting at first and making friends as well. I was told in the beginning of the year as well that Dons are available for any consulting or any problems, however, having experienced racism in high school, it was very hard for me to open up. On top of that, last summer I got very ill with Tuberculosis. In the beginning of the year, everything seemed fine, however towards the end of the semester, I constantly felt tired and with so much work load I ended up with bad grades. During second semester, after many visits to the hospital and local clinics, I also found out that I also have other issues, such as H. Pylori and also a gastric stomach. All of these overwhelming illnesses caused me to drop a course during second semester and lead to bad grades. Since I will be retaking these courses again this coming year instead of putting a mark in two courses which I have failed this past year. I would like to replace my mark with a DR. Additionally, with one course (Musc180) which I know I could've done better, however resulted in a D. I would like to request for a credit standing.
This was suggested through the academic advisor whom I talked to after talking about my health issues and after receiving academic probation. As a first year student, I was unaware of something like this (appealing for something) since I do not know many older grade students and everything is new to me, which is one reason why I am appealing this very late.
I am aware that I need to proof of my medical records, however the clinic I went most this year (La Salle) is currently closed in the summer so it is very hard to ask for my medical records. However, I do have a letter from my parents, who know about my situation and a few bus tickets of me coming back to Toronto, even during the April exam season for about 5 days because my situation did get very bad this past April and it was really hard for me to handle and I needed some support from family. If necessary, I did apply for that clinic to send me in my medicals records, however, I do not think it will arrive on time for when I need to send in my appeal so if necessary I will send it in separately later this summer.
Thank You for your consideration
