Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Nikolai Orlov, and I am a first-year student enrolled in an online bachelor of health sciences program.
Shortly before beginning the Fall 2024 semester, I began taking medication to treat my ADHD, which was re-diagnosed recently. Due to recurring health issues, I frequently visited my doctor to adjust my medication. These issues and circumstances had a significant impact on my ability to study in a healthy and sustainable way. Depressive thoughts, anxiety, constant headaches, and sickness significantly affected my ability to keep up with the course content. These inhibited my ability to concentrate during midterms, lab practical evaluations, and individual projects. Although symptoms were appearing earlier, worsening of my well-being and severe symptoms forced me to seek medical attention around Oct 24, 2024. To catch up with the course content, I started to work late into the night; however, this resulted in worsened health and caused further complications. In the supporting documentation, I have provided medical notes from doctors stating the exact dates of my absence.
At the beginning of the semester, I applied for QSAS accommodations. Unfortunately, Angel Verrette, an assigned QSAS advisor, was on her leave and could not meet with me. Cristina Cardelus, her substitute, could not meet with me until December 11th, 2024. The meeting took place very late in the semester, so I did not obtain sufficient QSAS accommodations. This contributed to my deferral of the exam of the ANAT100.
In light of these events, I would like to appeal for a late ANAT100 course drop due to unforeseen medical circumstances that prevented me from adequately managing the course load and demonstrating the knowledge of the course content during the assessments.
