Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to request the late drop of my DEVS 101 (Intro to Global Development) course as I missed the fall 2024 semester drop deadline due to significant challenges I was experiencing with my mental health at the time.

I have been experiencing significant challenges with my diagnosis of depression, anxiety and ADHD since October 2024 which led to an increase in suicidal ideation. These challenges led to a deterioration of my physical health and I sought out medical intervention to treat my mental and physical health at Kingston General Hospital Emergency Department on four occasions from October to December 2024.

Due to being overwhelmed with depressive, anxious and suicidal thoughts, I was unable to complete coursework over these months which resulted in a mark of 0 for multiple assignments in DEVS 101. Given this, I was unable to pass this course; however, due to being overwhelmed with my mental health I missed the fall 2024 drop deadline for DEVS 101.

I did attempt to seek accommodation for extensions with my coursework and received support from my SASS advisor, Caroline Teske, over this period. I also connected with Queen’s student wellness and met with a counsellor in my attempt to alleviate my mental health symptoms.

I have chosen to take the winter 2025 semester off so that I can be monitored by my family physician and receive treatment for my mental health challenges before returning to

Queen’s in the fall. As such, I have dropped all of my in-person classes so that I can focus on my mental health and well-being.
