Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to formally request a late drop of my fall term courses, BIOL330 and BIOL343, due to ongoing medical challenges that have significantly impacted my ability to meet academic requirements.
During the fall term, I experienced the most severe physical health challenges of my life, with my condition deteriorating more rapidly than anticipated. This led to a hospitalization just before exams, leaving me unable to write them and prompting a request for a deferral. Following this, I sought treatment to ensure that my physical condition would not interfere during the deferral period. Despite my efforts, I was faced with another unexpected and severe health issue beyond my control, resulting in a second hospitalization on January 12th. I remain admitted to this day with no clear discharge date, which has left me unable to adequately prepare for or write my deferred exams.
These repeated health challenges have significantly hindered my ability to perform at my best academically. I have missed crucial class time, assignments, and exam preparation, making it challenging to meet the academic requirements of these courses while recovering. While I am extremely appreciative of the support provided by Queen’s Accessibility Services, managing my studies around hospitalizations has proven to be more challenging than anticipated.
Throughout this time, I have worked closely with my medical team and followed their recommendations to manage my health. Once discharged, I will continue to receive support to maintain my physical capabilities and ensure a smooth transition back to my studies. I also have a medical care plan in place in Kingston to monitor my recovery beyond my hospital stay.
I truly regret the impact this situation has had on my academic progress and want to emphasize that this request does not reflect a lack of dedication to my academic goals. These medical challenges were unforeseen and beyond my control, and I remain fully committed to resuming my studies once my health stabilizes. Given the circumstances, I do not believe my current performance in the deferred exams or the courses would adequately reflect my academic abilities. I would deeply appreciate it if you would take my request into consideration for the late drop of BIOL330 and BIOL343. Thank you for considering my petition.
