Petition Letter: I am looking to drop MICR 271 as I have received two separate long term extenuating circumstances from a severe fractured spine injury that caused me to be temporarily paralyzed. This event occurred at the beginning of the school year during a soccer practice with my team when I was caught off guard in the moment and collided with another individual. I was immediately sent to the hospital where they found multiple fractures from my T10 all the way down to my S1 vertebrae. For months I was in and out of the hospital due to the fractures which created grade two ankylosing spondylosis, grade two ankylosing spondilethesis, severe sciatica and four herniated discs. Due to the severity of my injury I was unable to keep up with the work load as I had multiple medical appointments a week and was in excruciating pain in everything I did including sitting down. I was granted from the professor to take my midterm and final exams during the deferral exam period. I strongly feel as I was unable to fully put my full attention into this course and have suffered academically from not being able to participate in the weekly content. I do not feel as my extenuating circumstance has ended because I am still having injections into my spinal cord to num my pain receptors, multiple physio appointments and appointments with my orthopedic surgeon on having a spinal fusion. I know that if this event never took place I would be in a much better situation academically as I would have been present and fully able to put all of my efforts into succeeding in this class. I wanted to note that I have deferred all of my exams for the Fall 2024 semester so the final grades on Solus are inaccurate as the final exam marks are not included yet. I am looking to have this course dropped and removed from my transcript as I am wanting to add MICR 221 for the winter term. I can not have MICR 271 on my transcript because it is an exclusion to the MICR 221 course. I need to have MICR 271 removed as soon as possible as the cut off date to add courses into my schedule on solus ends this Friday, January 17th.
