Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science,
I am writing this petition letter to address my extenuating circumstances that affected my work in FILM 112, and why I am petitioning for Credit Standing. During the months of March onward, I had been severely affected by the onset of and withdrawal of medication (Atomoxetine and Lexapro), which had severely inhibited my ability to complete work on time. (Issues pertain to a lack of ability to concentrate, severe brain fog, and derealization caused by onset of Atomoxetine and withdrawal of Lexapro.) As a result, three assignments that were due in March (assignments 7, 9, and 10) were unable to be complete until April 24, 2024, which is when I turned them in. However, unfortunately, by then, the course coordinators had already begun assessing our grades for the course, and so, my work was not accepted.
Ever since this was revealed to me, I had tried negotiating with my professor and teaching assistant (who I have previously discussed academic accommodation with), and I had submitted an academic consideration request, but only received consideration for May onward (as they were unable to provide accommodation for the previous term). Because of this, my professor refused to reassess my work despite the supporting documentation attached as there was no academic consideration provided for the months in which the assignments were due.
I have attached both a verification of extenuating circumstances form and a doctor's note indicating the extenuating circumstances from March onward.
Best regards,
Farhaan Ali
