Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Academic Plan: Due to the nature of this request, I have closely considered what I may do if I am lucky enough to have this letter approved, and have created an academic plan for your consideration.
Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the honest truth that this mistake should never have occurred. Due to my hastiness, a lack of patience in the moment, and not enough of an understanding of the resources given to me by SOLUS, I mistakenly dropped this course following the deadline to add/drop classes. I recognize that this was a careless action on my part, in which I take full responsibility for, and has motivated me to change my behaviour in several ways. During my attempts to make this desired schedule change, I failed to familiarize myself with how SOLUS worked before making the change. Upon closer examination, I quickly realized that alongside this action not going according to plan, I did not orchestrate it in a way I should have. I now understand how to properly Swap, Update, and Drop courses using Queen's tools and resources, and can provide strong assurance that this will never happen again.
Additionally, I showed an extreme lack of patience and care when I did not think to check the necessary deadlines and due dates available to me through Queen's Academic Calendar. Upon looking, I immediately realized my error. To ensure that any similar situations do not occur in the future, I have copied all necessary dates and deadlines into my own personal calendar, therefore available to me at all times and will greatly increase my organizational skills.
I also wish to address the fact that I have been looking forward to taking GNDS 125 with motivation and optimism, and would be so grateful for a chance to be re- enrolled. The course, addressing numerous societal and cultural concepts that can be applied to both post-modern and modern day, consists of many educational opportunities for me, and I am eager to continue my learning in Gender Studies. As both a woman and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, it is my goal to explore resources and educational opportunities that allow for learning to be done on the privilege I carry as a white woman, while also being introduced to resources and concepts that I can use to educate myself, and others on diversity, inclusion, and the importance of activism and our societies various communities, such as LGBTQ+ and BIPOC. I wish for this course to both be a learning lesson and a way for me to express the knowledge I already carry on various topics, collecting from life experiences, my peers, and past educational opportunities.
I understand that this request for a re-enrollment may not be possible, therefore I have considered a backup option to be enrolling in the Summer 2025 online course option. However, I understand that not everything goes to plan, and it is not certain if GNDS 125 will be available to take online. Therefore, if applicable, I ask to be considered for a re-enrollment in this course for the current semester, and an opportunity to expand my knowledge on the incredibly important topics that Gender, Race, and Popular Culture will cover.
