Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I hope you're doing well. I am writing to request that my grade for CISC 101 be removed from my transcript, if possible. This request is based on a set of extenuating circumstances that have significantly impacted my ability to perform to the best of my ability.

During the beginning of the term, I was still getting accustomed to living on campus—a change that proved much more difficult than I had expected. To top that off, I contracted pneumonia, which meant I had to balance my recovery with academic responsibilities (I can provide documentation of this). This illness significantly impacted my class attendance. Consequently, I fell way behind.

While negotiating these challenges, I also had to make many trips back and forth to be with my family during my grandmother's palliative care. Her passing on November 16, 2024, and the subsequent emotional and logistical demands of her memorial service presented further obstacles to my ability to focus and be productive in my coursework.

I am fully aware of my academic responsibility and wish to assure you that, under these circumstances, I did my best to manage these events while I remained committed to your class. However, these events weighed heavily on my performance, and thus I could not perform up to my standard. The course bore the brunt of these circumstances, for in-person classes were integral to my success.

I do understand that with all the extenuating circumstances put aside, I should have gotten in touch with someone. The reality was that I became overwhelmed and continued trying to catch up.

If any additional documentation, such as medical records or information regarding my grandmother's passing, is needed, I will be more than happy to provide it.
