Appeal Grounds
Appeals to the Board of Studies must include a letter based on one or more of the Grounds for Appeal (Appeal Regulation 3.4). What are the grounds you are basing your appeal on?
- The Associate Dean's decision did not follow the rules of procedural fairness. A breach of procedural fairness includes such things as the Associate Dean failed to:
- Make a reasonable decision in your appeal. A “reasonable” decision is one that is based on evidence, thought out and supported by facts and logical inferences from the facts. To be reasonable, the decision must contain adequate reasons for the conclusions.
Appeal Grounds Details: 1) Pre-Approved Heavy Course Load:
- My request to take a heavy course load was formally reviewed and approved by the Faculty of Arts and Science, allowing me to enroll in eight courses for the Winter 2025 term.
- The approval process involved a thorough assessment of my academic capacity, and my ability to handle this workload was affirmed.
2) Enrollment Before January 17 Deadline:
- I initially enrolled in all eight approved courses before the deadline.
- Due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts, I had to drop two courses after consulting my academic advisor and program chair.
- My appeal is simply to replace those two dropped courses to maintain my originally approved course load.
3) Instructor Support for Late Enrollment:
- Both instructors of GLPH 281 and WRIT 120 have explicitly approved my enrollment and assured me of their support in catching up.
- This directly addresses concerns about missed coursework and academic challenges due to late entry.
4) Ongoing Academic Advising:
- I have been and continue to be in regular consultation with my academic advisor and program chair.
- My academic plan is fully supported by them and aligned with my goal of fast-tracking my degree completion before mandatory military service.
5) Time-Sensitive and Essential Nature of This Request:
- Without these two courses, I will not be able to complete my degree as planned, causing significant academic and personal setbacks.
- My three-year mandatory military service makes this a critical issue, and I am fully prepared and committed to succeeding now.
This appeal is not a request to exceed my approved course load but simply to replace the two courses I had to drop, keeping my enrollment consistent with my approved plan. Given the pre-approved course load, timely initial enrollment, instructor support, continuous academic advising, and the critical impact on my future, I respectfully request that my appeal be reconsidered.
