Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To whole this may concern,
My name is Jayda Hunter, I am currently enrolled in my fifth year at Queen’s, perusing a degree in Political Studies. At the beginning of this academic year in August of 2024, I sought the help of an academic advisor via email to help me select courses for the fall and winter terms. Given that I am in my last year of my degree, I wanted to ensure that I had everything needed in order to graduate in June of 2025. During this conversation, it was confirmed that I needed one more core course (3 units) as well as three more electives (9 units) to complete my BAH.
Last semester (Fall, 2024), I completed the required 400 level POLS course, as well as two electives. During the current semester, I am in the process of completing three more elective courses. Thus, I was under the impression that I had exceeded the number of courses need to graduate this spring.
Last week on January 23rd, I had booked another appointment with an academic advisor via drop in session to confirm that I had everything necessary to apply for graduation. During this conversation, I was informed that there was a miscommunication and I am still short 9 units of elective courses to complete my BAH. Given, at this time it was past the enrolment deadline to add courses to my schedule, it was advised to me that I try my hardest to enrol in one more elective course this semester via petition, and complete the two others during summer session of 2025. By doing so, I should be eligible for graduation in November.
Over the past week, I have emailed numerous professors in hopes that they accept me into one of their classes. It wasn’t until January 29th when I received a confirmation email from Fabio Colivicchi that he is willing to allow me to join his class “Warfare in the Ancient World” or CLST 150.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: During our email exchange, professor Colivicchi and I were able to successfully come up with a plan to help me catch up on the work I’ve missed. I was informed that thus far, the class has completed one test in the course and is scheduled to take a second the week after reading week. He will combine the two for me and I will write the material I’ve missed from test one as well as test two.
Also, I have a friend in the class who is willing to share their notes with me and help me catch up. I will attend classes and work independently note taking and completing the assigned readings while being approved for the course.
Given that I do not have a full course load this semester, I am able to dedicate my extra time to catching up on what I’ve missed.
I will attend office hours in the instance that I need clarification on something or have questions, and will utilize reading week as an opportunity to study diligently for the test and become confident with course material.
