Petition Letter: I took Stat 263 in my first year, and I didn't do well (D-). I wasn't aware it wasn't a first year course, nor was I aware that it wasn't a required course such that ECON had their own stats- I was a mentally distraught in my first year.
I had planned to retake STAT 263 in Fall24, however, I was unable to enrol. This was due to the limited amount of seats, and that I passed the course which made me very last on their priority list.
In ECON you are eligible for either Stat 263 or Econ 250. I had to call the stats department to let me into stat 263 (on call) but they said with their limited spots, they couldn't let me in, and transferred me to the econ department. The econ department said that if you passed a course you are not eligible to take the equivalent. However, in the Econ requirement conditions, I didn't pass the course, I failed as I didn't achieve a grade of a C. The 2 departments transferred me back and forth and got to the point where they were discussing it with a higher up ( I assume academic dean...?)
I was then given SPECIAL permission to enrol in Econ 250 to complete the statistics requirement of my degree. However, stat 263 is still included in my GPA. This is not fair, this was a fickle situation. I wasn't given the chance to choose whether or not to redo Stat 263 nor Econ 250. However, the only way I have both on my transcript (Stat 263 W24 D- & Econ 250 F24 A-) was because I was given special permission and someone overruled the system for me. I had no decision on what I wanted to take, they auto enrolled me based on the spots available.
I am begging that this grade just shows as a PASS or CR, not only for GPA reasons, but I completed the equivalent with an A-. Furthermore, I wasn't given a chance to retake and REPLACE the 263 grade and taking BOTH equivalents (and passing both) requires special permission only granted by the academic dean and both departments. If they are substitutes for each other, why are both grades accounted for?
