Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing to request academic consideration for extenuating circumstances (withdrawal) from BCHM 315 due to unexpected personal circumstances that severely impacted my mental and physical well-being, directly affecting my ability to prepare for and perform in the final exam on December 16.
During the exam season, I was already under immense academic pressure, struggling to manage multiple course revisions. However, on February 15, I experienced a devastating personal event—an unexpected serious quarrel with my boyfriend. What made it even more heartbreaking was the discovery of betrayal, which caused me extreme emotional distress. From that moment, I found myself overwhelmed with sadness, unable to eat or sleep, and constantly recalling past memories, making it difficult to breathe.
This emotional turmoil completely disrupted my study plans. I had intended to dedicate February 15 to intensive revision for BCHM 315, but the emotional pain left me with no motivation to study. Despite trying to force myself to focus, my mind was consumed by sorrow, making it impossible to grasp complex biochemistry concepts.
To make matters worse, February 16 was the start of my menstrual cycle, exacerbating my already fragile state. I suffered from severe headaches and intense abdominal pain, making even basic activities difficult. Despite these challenges, I pushed myself to attend the exam, but I struggled to concentrate, and my performance was far below my usual capability. The knowledge I had previously mastered became unclear, and I found myself unable to recall key concepts. My answer speed and accuracy were significantly affected, which I believe did not fairly reflect my true learning.
Fortunately, my final project for HLTH 200 remained largely unaffected, as most of the work had already been completed beforehand, leaving only minor finishing touches.
Given these circumstances, I sincerely request a course withdrawal without penalty for BCHM 315. I understand that withdrawing may impact my academic progress, but I strongly believe that taking the exam under such conditions was unfair to my academic efforts. I fully intend to re-enroll in the course next semester and am confident that I will be able to perform to my full potential.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I truly appreciate your understanding and support.
