Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Director,
I am writing to formally submit an academic petition requesting an alternative arrangement for my deferred MICR 386 midterm exam, currently scheduled for May 12th. I am seeking either permission to write the midterm earlier during the Winter term (March/April) or to write it remotely with proctoring, as I will be unable to complete it during the scheduled deferred period due to extenuating circumstances.
Earlier this term, I experienced a severe physical illness that significantly impacted my ability to prepare for and write the original midterm exam. As a result, I applied for Short-Term Academic Consideration and was approved for a deferral. At the time, I was under the impression that this would allow me to complete the midterm during the regular academic term, as midterms are not final exams. I regret not confirming whether the deferred exam period also applied to midterms, and I accept responsibility for this misunderstanding.
Unfortunately, I have now encountered a new conflict: I am from British Columbia and have a time-sensitive summer research internship that begins in the first week of May. As a result, I will not be in Kingston and will be unable to write the midterm in person on May 12th.
I am fully committed to completing the requirements of this course and would be grateful for the opportunity to write the midterm either before the end of the Winter term or remotely with appropriate supervision. I recognize that this is an exceptional request, and I deeply appreciate your time and understanding.
Thank you for considering my petition.
Sincerely,
Milaap Virk

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: To support my academic success following this temporary extenuating circumstance, I plan to maintain a more proactive approach in confirming assessment timelines and course policies to avoid misunderstandings in the future. I will also reach out to instructors or academic advisors earlier when faced with health-related challenges to ensure timely and accurate communication.
In terms of managing my well-being, I have been recovering well from the illness that affected me earlier this term, and I am now feeling physically and mentally prepared to complete my academic responsibilities. Should similar circumstances arise again, I will seek medical attention promptly and document any impacts on my academic performance accordingly.
Academically, I am on track to complete my current course load and remain committed to maintaining my standing in the BSc program. I will continue using available resources such as office hours, academic advising, and peer support to ensure that I stay on top of my coursework and maintain my academic goals.
