Petition Letter: April 3rd, 2025

Dear Associate Dean (Academic),

I hope you are doing well. I am seeking to “Late Course Drop” ENGL 100 6.0 credit from the summer of 2024. I had significant extenuating circumstances, beyond my control, which prevented me from dropping the class by the deadline, as indicated in the Faculty’s Summer of 2024 Sessional Dates.

The extenuating circumstances that affected academic progression was an amalgamation of my ongoing medical conditions that hit a massive symptomatic peak at the same time as my summer 2024 study period (at the end of ENGL 100--6.0 credit--course).

I have hormone issues, which during the drop deadline increased and affected my body poorly due to high prolactin (lab report proof provided) causing severe nausea and abdominal pain (Hospital Documentation provided). My reoccurring itchy psoriasis also flared at the moment inconveniently (Proof of Medication provided). While also simultaneously having a severe positive tb skin test reaction and testing positive for tuberculosis at the time (Proof Hospital Documentation, Chest X Ray, and Medication documentation provided) which I only started getting treated for recently (but was dealing with the symptoms with no treatment during the drop deadline). I also started to having thyroid issues (Lab report proof provided) and had low cortisol problems that affect my body with massive fatigue and dizziness so I became reliant on medication, which I did not receive until recently, and I had to live with the severe symptoms during the drop period (Lab report and medication proof provided).

While being bounced from hospital to hospital and appointment to appointment and in massive flare ups and many different symptoms I was unable to drop the course or even take the exam (even though I completed all the assignments and course tasks up until then with decent marks). I had (and am still having) multiple visits to various hospitals, doctors, and specialists and was unable to drop the course during the deadline. During that time with so much going on physically (and unable to do anything about it but wait for results) I slipped into a depression and had weekly appointments with a social worker (receipts of these appointments provided).

Had I known my medical circumstances were going to suddenly hit me all at once I would have dropped way before the deadline. Because of these circumstances happening so suddenly I was too out of it mentally and physically to be able to drop the course during the deadline. At the time of the drop deadline and during exams I was solely focused on getting better and caring for my physical health by prioritizing my hospitals, doctors, and specialists appointments, along with various scans and labs to attend before even thinking about the drop deadline. Now that I have started various treatments and have been on somewhat of a new medical regime, I am mentally and physically ready now to formally ask to be able to late course drop my ENGL 100 6.0 from the summer of 2024.
