Hello,
I am not entirely comfortable writing this, first and foremost, for my pride, but also due to the fact that it feels like I am blaming others for my inability to succeed. However, I would like to appeal to drop a course past the academic deadline.
I live with my parents part time. I also live in Northern Ontario, and it seems as though the spring flowers brought a lot more than pollen with them this year. Soon after I enrolled for the summer semester, my husband's PTSD was beginning to act up and I was waiting to hear back about a referral for my daughter's behaviour or mood or whatever issues. Really it was foreshadowing.
In the beginning of May my father asked if I had noticed my mother acting strangely, or her weight loss. I had, but she has always had migraines and she claims to be fine. Despite her sudden mood swings, new mild wine problem, and slight irrationality paired with selective hearing, she refuses to see a doctor, claiming it is all just old age. My one sister agrees, old age at 61 is apparently common. My father, my husband, my oldest sister and I, think is weird, needs medical attention, and I know it is stressful.
Speaking of my oldest sister, she's mentally unstable (with a diagnosis, but funny true story, if you still work and pay a minimum on your bills, you aren't privy to the attention you require on a medical level) and has been living on the east coast for the last few years. Her engagement fell apart at the end of May and she appeared at our door as a result. She required a lot of attention, and still does. She moved back out east at the end of June, but that just ended the late night talks and light sleeping and replaced them with phone calls in the middle of the night, and a whole lot of worry.
My daughter, is, I worry about her. We now have an appointment lined up for November 2nd 2015 concerning her mood and response. We had an appointment with her family doctor in the spring, which was very difficult for her. After I sent away her paperwork she frequently asked when and if she would get another doctor. She is afraid that the new doctor will take her away from me; she has a lot of questions and requires a lot of attention. I thought being out of school for the summer would help; it has brought down her fear, but increased her mood swings. November is a long way away.
My spouse has PTSD which normally acts up in the winter, thus, I had been attempting summer classes instead of winter. This winter was actually quite good I was hoping he was just feeling better. No, I was wrong. He also thought he could quit his 2 pack a day habit at the beginning of July. Turns out, it is as difficult as everyone says. If there is a book about addicts with PTSD quitting something, I need to read it. From the moment he is done work until he goes to bed, he is calling me, or standing beside me, or making strange accusations. Did I mention he is a miner with a 7 on, 7 off shift Do you know what that means He works 14 days a month. That is a lot of time to be sad and anxious, and smoking. Once the public school year ended, he started watching our children while he is off and I am at work. That is stressful. It is a good thing that I work alone for the most part and that my cell phone is an active part of my job; he texts, a lot. If I do not respond in a rational time frame, he creates ideas. This is normally fine, but this has never happened in the summer - I do not work in the winter. I had time for this, in the winter.
Does this mean that I should be lacking in my scholarly role I am not sure. When I sat down to attend to school work, I felt guilty, and then my phone would ring or someone would walk in with an issue or needing something. I believe I should have dropped this class before the date. I was hoping I could salvage the knowledge I had gained through the readings and such, but I lost my grasp on time and focus as July came in. I am still trying to keep up, but there is no way I have the foundation I feel necessary to complete this class.
As a result, I would like to appeal to drop a course past the academic deadline, specifically, PSYC 235-Abnormal Psychology.
Thank you for considering my appeal,
