Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello,

At the start of the winter term, my grandfather, who I was very close with, became seriously ill. This had a major impact on my ability to keep up with my courses, as I was trying to see him as much as possible and as a result I was unable to engage with MUSC 171 as much as I had hoped. For a time, his condition improved, and I began working through the course content and assignments again, which is why I didn’t withdraw before the deadline.

Unfortunately, he passed away shortly afterward. This had a significant effect on my mental health and well-being, and I ultimately decided to drop the course before the final submission date. Due to the events, I couldn't complete my work, and when I could, I didn’t feel that the work I was producing reflected my abilities or who I am as a student.

I’ve since received a DR grade, which I understand can’t be petitioned. I just wanted to confirm that this is my final grade and that it won’t be changed. I’m planning to retake the course next year if possible.

I am unsure when, but I’m currently in the process of obtaining supporting documentation from a professional, and I’ll submit it as soon as I’m able, if it’s needed.
