To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to respectfully request a grade review for MUSC 171 from the Fall 2024 semester, due to extenuating personal and health-related circumstances that significantly impacted my academic performance.
I have struggled with mental health challenges throughout my time at Queen’s, and unfortunately, the Fall 2024 semester was no exception. I experienced persistent and severe anxiety and depressive symptoms, which often manifested physically as intense stomach pain and other somatic symptoms. These health concerns, beyond my control, severely affected my concentration, energy levels, and ability to engage consistently with coursework.
My struggles with mental health are not new. In Fall 2023, I had to drop two courses due to similar issues. While I have been actively working to manage my condition—including attending weekly professional support sessions through Queen’s wellness services—I continue to face ongoing challenges.
During the Fall 2024 semester, especially in the latter half, these difficulties intensified. Despite my best efforts to keep up, my symptoms interfered with my ability to complete assignments and prepare adequately for assessments in MUSC 171. The grade I received does not reflect my dedication to the course nor my true academic ability under normal circumstances.
I have attached a letter of support from Queen’s wellness services, confirming both my ongoing condition and my commitment to receiving help. I believe this demonstrates my willingness to take responsibility and seek support when needed.
In light of these circumstances, I sincerely request a review of my final grade in MUSC 171. I hope you will consider the significant health-related obstacles I faced and recognize my ongoing efforts to succeed despite them.
