Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom this May Concern,

I am writing to formally request to designate my final grade in POLS 383 as Credit/No Credit due to significant extenuating circumstances that negatively affected my academic performance during the term.

In the middle of the semester, I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, which had been affecting me for some time but reached an unmanageable point during this course. At that stage, I had not yet begun medication or therapy, and I was in the process of understanding and adjusting to this new diagnosis. The emotional and psychological toll made it difficult for me to focus, retain information, or perform consistently in my academic work, particularly in POLS 383.

The timing of my diagnosis coincided with key assessments in the course, including my attendance course, which impacted me in terms of getting the knowledge I required for the exam, which ultimately affected the mark that I received in the exam and my performance during this period does not accurately reflect my capabilities or commitment to my studies. Although I eventually sought help and began treatment, the effects of the anxiety during that window were substantial enough to impair my academic progress.

I understand the purpose of the Credit/No Credit option is to support students facing unforeseen and uncontrollable challenges, and I believe my situation falls within this scope. I have included supporting documentation, and I would appreciate your understanding and consideration of this petition.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Sincerely,
Donya Shahrabi
