Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I developed a severe mental illness before I started university due to being bullied at school and a series of problems in my family, and I didn't receive any treatment or support at the student wellness center or QSAS for the first two years of university. This resulted in me being in a very poor mental state in 2022 and 2023 and was not able to support me through my regular studies. This can also be seen on my transcripts. When I first got enrolled in 2022, my mental state was so bad that I didn't know of any agencies or facilities that could help me in a completely new university environment, and I considered suicide more than once during that time. This led to a very poor academic performance during the first semester, with the only failed class I had in my entire university experience. And in the summer of 2023, despite the fact that returning to my home country made my medical resources more available, there was a drastic change in my family at that time. I caught Covid for the second time, which led to severe complications and after-effects, and at the height of my health, my maternal grandmother left my family because believing a cult, while my parents told me they needed a divorce. This further worsened my mental state at the time, thus affecting my schooling even worse. Although during that time, I first learned about the school's drop policy at the time and managed to late drop two classes that I could not continue due to hospitalization, I was not rational enough to drop all of my underperforming classes at the time. Because at the time, it was very difficult for me to graduate. So I don't think D is not that bad compared to failing a class, even though I didn't complete all the assignments and quizzes for that class at that time due to hospitalization, but at least I passed ANAT 100 as a F. but now I'm thinking of reapplying to drop my freshman year ANAT 100 and ANAT 100 in the summer of 2023 because since the 2023Fall semester, I’ve been receiving support from student wellness center, and after that my academic performance has improved significantly. So I would like to appeal now because these two classes do not reflect my true academic abilities and I have enough medical proof from psychiatry and complications from my Covid at the time.
