Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing to petition for my credit for [CLASS] because I feel like I missed out on an opportunity to make up for an unfortunate midterm. I missed passing my midterm by a few points. I was ready to buckle down and make up for that. The announcement of the recent strike led to a massive change in the grading process for the course.

Our professor announced on March 10th that new deadlines for our assignment would be posted after the strike.
On March 19th, the communication was that the strike had not ended; please proceed with working on available assignments and continue to participate in upcoming items.
With the wording of both communications, the essay did not get a deadline update, and the deadline had passed when we received the email to proceed with what was available. The essay, which was originally 30% of our grade, is now listed as 90% of our grade. I feel I did my due diligence at that time by double-checking the assignment deadline, and I looked on the discussion board, where there was no mention of the essay. I, and I believe many others, were under the impression that the essay was not one of the assignments 'still available.

I now come to learn this misunderstanding may have cost me this credit, and I feel I have no other choice but to come and petition for a credit. I am working two jobs, one part-time and one full-time, doing everything I can to continue my education, and a setback such as this is a huge blow to the big picture. I would have never intentionally missed completing an assignment.

I thank you for your time and your consideration in this stressful moment for me.
