Dear Associate Dean,

I'm writing to formally request a Credit (CR) grade for RELS 221: New Religious Movements in the [Winter 2025] term. I am seeking this mark based on extenuating academic events beyond my control that directly affected my capacity to finish the course as originally intended.

The PSAC 901 strike in the later half of the year continued for many consecutive weeks, from March until the end of the term, therefore cancelling all classes for RELS 221. Furthermore, the strike caused the final project meant to account for thirty percent of the final grade to be removed.

This unanticipated academic interruption seriously affected my course performance and learning. Through class discussions, and guided project work, RELS 221 stresses critical interaction with new religious movements. The cancellation of classes and the removal of the final project removed important chances to show and reinforce my grasp of the content. The last assignment was meant to help me synthesize my knowledge in an applied form and increase my involvement with course themes. Without this evaluation, my grade does not fairly represent my academic effort or accomplishment; it is based just on work completed earlier in the term. The cancellation of the final project left my performance in the course incompelete and eliminated the possibility to raise my course grade.

Given that these events were totally beyond my control and that institutional choices during the strike directly impacted my capacity to meet the course requirements, I think a Credit (CR) mark is fair and reasonable. This would recognize the effort I made under disturbed circumstances without compromising my academic record.

I appreciate your time and consideration of my petition.

Sincerely,
Muhammad Khan
