Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

In first semester I sustained a traumatic assault. I filed for long-term academic consideration in the fall term of 2024, which I was granted for approximately 2-3 months. I sustained a severe concussion, broken nose, and terrible temporary facial deformation. While my injuries healed and I was able to successfully complete my fall semester courses and exams, I have faced severe mental challenges following the incident. The winter semester was extremely challenging for me. To give proper context to the extent of my injuries, I was beaten by a group of men outside of my house in Kingston on the way home. Nearly 4 men beat me senseless and curb stomped me. I woke up in the hospital with no recollection of the attack with police and paramedics at my side. Luckily, I did not sustain any brain damage but this was as close as it gets to a near death experience. I did not press charges out of fear of retaliation from the attackers. They were Kingston locals who obviously had nothing to lose. I wanted the whole thing to be over while I healed physically and mentally. While I did not have any fear of the event recurring, I experienced poor mental health the following semester. For whatever reason the near death experience made me question my purpose at queens, I entered a depressive state and stopped attending classes, completing coursework and even cut off my regular social life. I lost all motivation for everything. I ended up dropping my 2 other classes mid-way through the year hoping to lighten my course load. Now, I am requesting to drop this class while I evaluate my future.
