Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to formally request a further deferral of my CHEM 112 exam beyond the scheduled May 15–18 window, and approval to apply the CR (Credit) designation in place of a final percentage grade.

This request follows my original petition to withdraw from CHEM 112 and receive a full refund, submitted due to the significant disruption caused by the PSAC901 strike. The strike heavily affected core components of the course, including the labs and tutorials, which were either cancelled or severely compromised. The exam was initially deferred as part of that refund request process.

Although I completed the remainder of my exams during the April period, I later learned from Queen’s University International Centre (QUIC) on April 25 that students under maintained status are not permitted to engage in academic activity, including in-person exams. My study permit expired on March 23, 2025, and I am currently under maintained status, which means I am technically not eligible to sit the deferred exam in May.

This situation follows an earlier disruption in January 2024, when I was unable to return to Canada at the start of term due to outdated immigration guidance published by QUIC. That guidance incorrectly stated that a valid permit alone was sufficient for re-entry. I re-enrolled in CHEM 112 with the intention of completing the full course this academic year, but instead have faced repeated obstacles beyond my control.

Given these circumstances, I am respectfully requesting a further deferral of the CHEM 112 exam until I am legally permitted to write, as well as approval to apply the CR designation in light of the continued administrative and academic disruption I have experienced.
