Petition Letter: To whom this may concern,
I am asking to be added to “HLTH 101” even though the add deadline has passed. I was on the waitlist for this class and was checking very often. When add deadline ended, the class was still full. However, the next day, I saw that spots had opened up but it was too late to enroll. I had no control over this timing. I immediately emailed Prof. Fergus and he responded with this exact email: “Hi James, There is now room in the course. Please let me know if you would like me to add you to it. All the best, Stevenson Fergus, PhD, MPH.” I copy and pasted the email to try and avoid misleading anyone, but it is clearly implied that he has granted permission for me to join the course. He has not responded to my follow up emails to his email attached above.
This caused a lot of stress because I planned my summer around taking this course. I am working hard to get into law school, and every class makes a difference.
I know that deadlines are incredibly important, but the course only became available after the deadline passed. I hope you can understand that this was beyond my control, and I would really appreciate being allowed to add the course now.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: If I am allowed to take this course I will be fully committed. I planned to take this class for a while and made room in my schedule for it. I have enough time this summer to focus and do well.
This is evidenced by the fact that I have done well in my past summer class (WRIT 120 last year). I strive for good grades because I want to apply to law school. This course is part of my plan to boost my GPA and continue on that path.
I also have support. I talk to my Professors and TA’s when needed. I will continue to do that if that is what I need to do to succeed. I have also worked hard to improve my time management, and I feel beyond ready and prepared for this course.
If I’m allowed to take this class I will give it my very best effort. I really want to succeed, and I hope to get the chance to prove that.
