Petition Letter: To Whom it May Concern,
I am requesting a CR on my transcript as opposed to a letter grade for the ARTV 102 course. Toward the end of the semester, I was dealing with several challenges and hadn’t completed a couple of assignments in the course, planning to catch up during the exam period. When we were informed that the course had been switched to credit/no credit, I assumed that this decision was final, instead spent that time catching up with other courses and dealing with personal issues. I understand it was my responsibility to clarify this, but I had been told in other classes that once this change was made, it couldn’t be reversed. I was under the impression this was university policy, and was told as such in many other courses. This understanding informed my decisions at the time. Had I known otherwise, I would have reached out for support in my coursework or further clarification.
I truly enjoyed the course and Kathleen is an excellent professor. I understand the mistakes I made on my end, however I felt the university lacked transparent communication in these matters and failed to make the policies easily available to students. I understand that this is perhaps not the standard practice, but due to the unforeseen nature of the strike, should there not be some leniency in this? I would be happy to submit the work to improve my grade, but due to the quick turnaround, I don't think that would be fair to the TAs.
I really cannot have this grade on my transcript and this class is an elective for me, so if that means I don't get the credit for this course, I'm fine with that, I just want to ensure this grade doesn’t negatively impact my GPA.
Thank you for your attention! I look forward to hearing back from you.
