Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson.

My name is Crystal and I am writing to you today to request that my BCHM 270 grade be removed from my transcript. I am currently attending Nipissing University, and in my last year of the RPN to BScN program. At this time, I have a 84% GPA and am very proud of my accomplishments.

Winter 2022 was very difficult, and as you can see from my previous appeals, my time at Queen's has also been difficult. However, I am hoping to apply to Medical School through Queen's University within the near future, and the grade I obtained in BCHM 270 brings me under the threshold needed to be competitive for admission.

I would like to explain briefly what occurred during Winter 2022 that led to my difficulties. I am a student who struggles with depression and anxiety, and at times, it makes completing my school work difficult. I also sustained a substantial loss in my family (5 members of my family died in a tragic house fire on March 28th, 2022 - an obituary can be provided if needed). This contributed to my difficulty toward the end of the course, and despite being given a deferred examination, all the confounding factors prevented me from being successful in the course. My accessibility coordinator Monique had been following my situation and advocating for myself as well.

I realize that requesting this appeal is several years overdue, but I truly did not realize my final grade had been converted to an F. Once I completed my exam, a relief washed over me and I did not think about it again until reviewing my transcript earlier today. Despite me having a 3.7 GPA at Nipissing at this time, almost all medical schools in Ontario use cGPA calculations, and I would be devastated to not be given an opportunity to show how much I have grown academically, as well as mentally and emotionally, to Queens admissions, specifically.
