Academic Plan: As a committed undergraduate student at Queen’s University, I am pursuing a program that emphasizes interdisciplinary learning in health, science, and society, and I am requesting approval to add three courses—IDIS 171 (The Global Human Condition), IDIS 199 (Impact of Science on Society), and GLPH 171 (Social and Physical Determinants of Health and Disease)—to my summer term schedule despite the registration deadline having passed. These courses are directly aligned with my academic path and future career goals in health sciences and public health, and they serve as foundational building blocks for upper-year coursework.

IDIS 171 introduces critical global perspectives and cultural insights necessary for understanding health challenges in a globalized context.

IDIS 199 offers essential exposure to how science affects and interacts with broader society, helping students explore ethical considerations and social responsibility—key skills for future healthcare professionals.

GLPH 171 is particularly crucial as it examines the root causes of health and disease from a population-based lens, reinforcing the importance of social and environmental influences on public well-being.

Together, these three courses will help position me to take on more advanced topics in global health, research, and healthcare ethics in the coming academic year. Given the compact nature of summer terms, I understand that managing the workload will require diligence and strong time-management, and I am fully prepared to meet that challenge. I do not have any other major commitments such as employment or extracurricular activities during the summer, allowing me to dedicate myself entirely to my studies.

In anticipation of joining these courses late, I plan to catch up immediately by reviewing lecture recordings, reading assigned materials, and completing any past assignments or quizzes as permitted. To stay on track, I will create a detailed weekly study plan using digital tools like Notion to organize deadlines, reading schedules, and progress check-ins. I also intend to make use of campus academic support services such as Student Academic Success Services (SASS) to reinforce my study strategies and writing skills where applicable.

Additionally, I will regularly attend virtual office hours to ask clarifying questions and ensure I am fully engaged with the material. I have handled intensive academic schedules in the past and am confident that I can manage the accelerated pace of these courses with the necessary discipline and commitment. I respectfully ask the university to consider this request and allow me the opportunity to demonstrate my readiness and commitment to succeed.
