A. The Request:
I am petitioning to receive an extension on my deferred CHEM 112B (Winter, 2025) final exam, which was originally rescheduled for May 17, 2025. Due to a severe and ongoing medical condition, I am currently unable to travel or complete academic work, and I am requesting additional time to recover before attempting the exam.

B. Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances:
Over the past few months, I have been experiencing a recurring and debilitating bowel issue beyond my control. Each episode lasts approximately two weeks and includes frequent (6–8 times daily) and urgent bowel movements, severe stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and extreme exhaustion. These symptoms make it nearly impossible to leave my room or be in environments without immediate access to a washroom.
Additionally, I suffer from fainting spells which are typically managed with a stable diet and supplements, however, they worsen during these bowel episodes due to dehydration, malnutrition, and fatigue. The first episode occurred between Febraury 20–26. It was moderately painful but manageable, and I relied on home remedies to recover. The second episode, which occurred from April 2–14, was significantly more severe. I was unable to leave my room for extended periods, and even basic activities left me exhausted or faint. As a result, I made the decision to defer both my PHAR 100 and CHEM 112 exams that were originally scheduled for April 9. During that time, I sought medical help, received prescription medication, and rested. By April 14, my condition improved enough to allow me to complete my BIOL 103 exam on April 14 and PATH 120 on April 19. However, the current episode began on May 7 and has been as severe as the previous one, if not worse. I remain largely confined to my room, unable to engage in academic work or travel.
My doctor has deemed me unfit to travel and has recommended two weeks of rest. While I was able to complete my deferred PHAR 100 exam on May 14, it was conducted online, which made a significant difference. I was able to take it from the comfort of my room with my washroom nearby. This arrangement was crucial to my ability to successfully complete the exam. Unfortunately, that level of accessibility and flexibility is not possible for my in-person CHEM 112B exam in Kingston, which would require over 10 hours of round-trip travel while I am in a vulnerable medical state with no support available. I am actively working with my family doctor to investigate and resolve this issue. I have been referred to a gastroenterologist for further examination and have begun the process of additional medical testing. I completed bloodwork at LifeLabs on May 14 and will submit the results once available. I am also following my doctor’s instructions, including taking prescribed medications and planning additional diagnostics.

C. Future Plan:
I am fully committed to resolving my health issues so I can continue my academic journey without further interruption. I am currently following my family doctor's recommendations, which include undergoing diagnostic procedures with a gastroenterologist, completing necessary blood work, and taking prescribed medications. I am also planning to follow up on any additional tests as required. These steps are intended to identify the root cause of my recurring illness and to develop a long-term treatment plan. In addition to medical treatment, I am considering academic adjustments, such as taking a lighter course load in the upcoming term and coordinating with Accessibility Services if ongoing accommodations become necessary. Should my petition be granted, I intend to manage my health proactively and remain in regular contact with my healthcare providers to prevent future recurrences from impacting my studies. I am determined to stay on track with my academic goals and will continue taking all possible measures to maintain both my well-being and academic performance.
