Petition Letter: Dear University Appeal Committee,
I am writing to formally appeal the Requirement to Withdraw from Queen’s University for one year, effective May 1, 2025. I believe this decision does not reflect my current academic standing, and I respectfully ask the university to reconsider.
I have a valid basis to appeal the Requirement to Withdraw. In a letter dated May 24, 2024, from Associate Dean Jenn Stephenson, the original conditions of my academic probation stated:“You will remain on probation until you have completed at least another 18.0 units, at which time another assessment will take place.” As of the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 terms, I have completed only 15.0 units. I have 6.0 units marked as incomplete (IN), without a letter grade, from the Winter 2025 term. Therefore, I have not yet reached the 18.0-unit threshold required for a reassessment of my academic standing.
In accordance with Policy 13.4.1 – Criteria for RTW1, I respectfully request to be placed on “Continuing on Probation” until I have completed my remaining 6.0 units and have received a final letter grade for both courses.
I kindly ask that you take these circumstances into consideration and grant my request to remain enrolled. I deeply value my place at Queen’s University and am fully committed to continuing my education without interruption.
Thank you for your time and understanding. I welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss this matter further.
Sincerely,
Hailey Craven

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: To the University Appeals Committee,
In support of my appeal to remain enrolled at Queen’s University for the 2025/2026 term, I am submitting the following academic plan outlining the steps I will take to meet the conditions of my academic probation, improve my academic standing, and successfully complete my degree requirements.
I am currently working to complete 6.0 units of coursework from the Winter 2025 term, which are marked as Incomplete (IN). These include:
SOCY306 Sociology of Consumer Culture
EMPR370 Human Resource Analytics
I have communicated with my instructors and received approval to complete all outstanding assignments. Upon completion and submission of final grades, I expect to meet or exceed the 1.6 GPA threshold required for good academic standing in the Sociology program.
To ensure my continued academic success, I will actively engage with the following support services such as meeting with an academic adviser to monitor my progress, review degree requirements and develop a solid and sustainable course load for the upcoming school year. Along with using various support systems coinciding with Student Wellness Services, to help manage personal mental health challenges that have previously affected my academic performance.
Upon successful completion of my incomplete courses and participation with academic advisors and counselors, I plan to enroll in a manageable course load for the Fall and Winter terms of the 2025/2026 school year, with a strong focus on academic balance and performance. I have been participating in a reduced course load and found that this has positively impacted my success through the duration of the course terms.
I remain deeply committed to continuing my education at Queen’s University and to meeting the requirements of my program with focus and determination. With the support available and the components provided by this academic plan, I am confident in my ability to demonstrate academic progress and successfully complete my degree.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Hailey Craven
