Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to formally appeal the decision to require me to withdraw for a second time. I understand how serious this is and I take full responsibility for my academic performance. At the same time I want to explain what led to this situation and the real steps I have taken to change it.
After coming back from my first withdrawal I had a really strong start. My first semester back went well and I felt more in control. But the fall semester became much harder and by the end I found myself falling into the same patterns that caused problems in first year. Once I realised that I took action right away. A week before finals I reached out for help from a doctor but also from tutors and academic support.
The anxiety medication I was prescribed unfortunately made things worse. I stopped taking it in January after exams. Since then I have been working closely with Student Wellness Services. Therapy helped me realise I may have been struggling with ADHD for years without knowing it. I completed a full ADHD assessment over the winter term and was told the results strongly suggest ADHD. I now have planned appointments in the fall to start treatment and set up accommodations.
I also applied to switch into a General Economics degree. After reflecting through therapy I realised that my previous program was not the right fit for me. Economics is something I genuinely enjoy and feel motivated to study. I am already taking a summer economics course to get ahead and build confidence going into next semester.
If I am withdrawn I will lose access to all the academic and mental health support I have just started building. My therapy and treatment are all through the university and I cannot continue them from abroad. I also would not be able to return to Canada as my parents will not pay for flights if I am not enrolled. That would shut down everything I have started working on to improve.
I know I am capable of succeeding now. I have done the work to change things and I have real systems in place. I am asking for the opportunity to continue and prove it.
Sincerely
Yasseen Madi

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My academic plan is based on preparation support and studying something that actually fits me.
I have applied to switch into the General Economics program because I realised through therapy and self reflection that I was not in the right program before. Economics is something I enjoy and I feel more motivated when I am working on topics that interest me. I am already taking a summer economics course to get ahead and feel ready for the fall term.
I have multiple appointments already booked through Student Wellness Services. These include therapy academic accommodations and follow up support for ADHD. The full assessment I completed this winter confirmed a likely diagnosis and my doctor and I plan to start treatment when I return in the fall. These services have helped me better understand myself and I will continue using them consistently.
I will also keep working with tutors attending office hours and using academic advising. I plan to take a lighter course load and I am using weekly planning tools like Notion and Google Calendar to stay organised. I now check in with support staff earlier when I feel overwhelmed and I have a clear system to track deadlines and prepare for exams.
If I am withdrawn I will lose access to all of this support. I will not be able to return to Canada as my parents cannot justify paying for flights unless I am enrolled. That means no access to therapy ADHD treatment or academic resources. All the progress I have made depends on being able to stay.
This is not just a request for another chance. It is a continuation of the real changes I have already made and the commitment I am showing. I know I can succeed if I am allowed to stay connected to the support and plan I now have in place.
