Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to respectfully request a late drop for two courses taken during Summer 2024 and Fall 2024, due to significant medical conditions that severely impacted my ability to complete course requirements despite my best efforts.
My insomnia began in 2023 following a traumatic event, for which I received academic consideration in that year. The insomnia triggered frequent migraines, extreme fatigue, and heightened health risks, including the potential for seizures due to my history of sleep deprivation. These ongoing challenges made it difficult for me to engage in coursework to the standard I had previously maintained.
In Summer 2024, the course I was enrolled in required several field trips, including off-campus. Although I was offered the opportunity to complete the field trips separately, I was unable to take advantage of this due to my physical condition. These field trips were integral to understanding key learning objectives of the course, as much of the content was not available on OnQ. Despite my best efforts to stay on top of the coursework, missing these field trips, which were essential to the course, meant I could not meet all requirements.
In Fall 2024, I performed well throughout most of the semester, but as the term progressed, I sustained burn injuries and experienced a resurgence of my migraines. These health issues prevented me from completing the final exam as originally scheduled. I was granted an extension for the exam, but during this period, I felt overwhelmed and helpless due to the combination of my physical symptoms and emotional toll, causing me to miss the extended deadline. I felt emotionally and physically unable to advocate for myself at that time, which contributed to missing the deadline despite having the extension.
Since then, I have been prescribed medication to manage my migraines and am working with a therapist to address the emotional and psychological impact of these health challenges. I am committed to improving my health and staying on track with my academic goals, and I am on track to graduate in Fall 2025.
The attached documentation, including my migraine prescription and the academic consideration form from 2023, provides context regarding my health challenges. If further documentation is needed, I am happy to provide it.
I am grateful for your understanding and consideration of my situation, and I am fully committed to completing my degree in the coming year. Thank you for your time and support.
