Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Office of the Associate Dean (Academic),
I am writing to formally petition the grade assigned to me in HLTH 102 for the Winter 2025 term. I am requesting a review of the grades assigned to my HBSA Part 1: Contract and HBSA Part 2 assignments, both of which received grades of zero. I believe this outcome does not fairly reflect the quality and timeliness of the work I submitted, and I ask for your assistance in facilitating a formal review under Academic Regulation 11.
Grounds for Reconsideration
Both assignments were completed thoroughly and submitted well before the assigned deadlines. I submitted HBSA Part 1 on February 28th and HBSA Part 2 shortly afterward. The assignments were well-developed, met the course expectations, and reflected my engagement with the course material. However, I have recently been informed that both received grades of zero due to being submitted in an incorrect file format.
I acknowledge that I mistakenly submitted the assignments in a format that could not be accessed by the graders. However, I was never notified about this issue until May 8th, when a single comment was posted on the submission. This was more than two months after the original due date and only five days before final grades were released. At that point, I had already left campus for the term and did not see the comment until after grades were posted.
This lack of communication prevented me from correcting the issue in a timely manner. I had no reason to believe there was anything wrong with my submissions until long after the opportunity to address it had passed. I used the format I believed was acceptable at the time, and had I been made aware of the issue earlier, I would have corrected it immediately.
Additional Context
The last two months of the semester were especially difficult due to the teaching assistant strike, which likely contributed to the delay in grading and communication. On a personal level, I was also coping with the loss of a longtime family pet while still at university, which added to the emotional stress during the final weeks of the term. Despite these challenges, I continued to meet all deadlines and completed every assignment to the best of my ability.
Request
I am respectfully requesting that the HBSA Part 1 and HBSA Part 2 assignments be reviewed and graded based on their content, which I have attached to this petition in the correct file format. I am confident that the work meets the standards outlined in the course marking scheme and would not have been graded as zero had it been accessible at the time of submission.
Supporting Materials
The correct versions of both assignments are attached to this email. If needed, I can also provide timestamped evidence of the original submissions, class notes, and other relevant course materials. Please let me know if these should be submitted separately.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue fairly and in accordance with academic policy.
