Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean of Arts Science, Dr. Dorit Naaman, and Professor Ian Chin-Sang,
My name is Bruno Carusi, and I am a student studying Biology at Queen’s University. I write to you humbly and graciously to defer my BIOL 205 exam to the August 2025 deferred exam period.
I was originally supposed to write my BIOL 205 Final Exam in the December Final Exam period. Regrettably, during that time my civil legal case began in which I was required to answer questions under oath in the Superior Court of Justice. In my civil legal case, I was addressing very serious and egregious trauma that took place during my adolescence at my high school. Being in front of a judge in the Superior Court of Justice I was asked questions that elicited grief, sadness, and severe depression. In addition to being plaintiff in a civil legal case my grandmother unfortunately passed away in January 2025. When my grandmother died her funeral further exacerbated my depression. My mental health condition including my depression has been exacerbated to the point where I have experienced impaired memory, attention, and cognition. All these extenuating circumstances have severely impacted my ability to study.
I had originally requested to defer my BIOL 205 final exam to June 13th, 2025, but after recently seeing my psychiatrist and medical support team I have been advised to write my BIOL 205 final exam in August 2025. Attached you can see a letter written by my Dr. Bruce Parsons, M.D., P.hD to substantiate my claim. I want you to know that I am a very motivated and responsible student and I remain eager to finish completing BIOL 205 before the 2025-2026 academic year starts in September 2025. I kindly request that I can have the opportunity to demonstrate the hard work that I have put toward this course by allowing me to write my BIOL 205 final exam in August 2025. The outcome of my legal case has been finalized so my psychiatrist does not foresee this regrettable situation becoming an issue in the future. In addition, I plan to continue seeking help from Student Support Services at Queen’s University, to further prevent my invisible disability having an impact on my studies in the future.
I appreciate your consideration and understanding and I look forward to writing my BIOL 205 final exam in August 2025 with my accommodations provided my Queen’s Student Accessibility Services.
Sincerely Yours,
Bruno Joseph Carusi
