Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),

I am submitting this petition to formally request a grade review for HLTH 102, based on the grounds that my submitted assignments, which were essential to course completion, were not marked due to a misunderstanding beyond my control. Despite completing all coursework and submitting it before the deadlines, I received a failing grade. I believe this outcome does not accurately reflect my academic performance or effort.

The two assignments at the center of this petition — HBSA Part 1 (Contract) and HBSA Part 2 (Final Report) — were both submitted well in advance of their respective due dates. I submitted Part 1 on February 28, 2025, and Part 2 shortly afterward. These assignments were completed thoroughly, following the instructions provided, and used the official templates distributed through the course platform. I now understand that if these assignments are not submitted or marked, the result is a failing grade. However, in this case, the work was completed and was submitted.

The issue appears to be that the files I uploaded were in an incompatible format, which made them inaccessible to the grading team. I was unaware of this issue until May 8, when a comment was left on one of the assignments. This was more than two months after the original submission and only five days before final grades were released. By that point, I had already left campus and was no longer monitoring onQ regularly. I also did not receive any email or direct communication informing me that there had been a problem with the files.

This breakdown in communication was likely exacerbated by the ongoing teaching assistant strike, which created widespread delays and uncertainty. Had I been contacted earlier, I would have been able to correct the issue immediately by resubmitting the files in a more accessible format.

I have attached the original completed versions of both HBSA assignments. These documents show full engagement with course expectations and demonstrate that I completed the required work on time. I am requesting that these assignments be reviewed and marked so that my final grade may be reassessed accordingly.

I initially reached out to my course instructor three weeks ago but did not receive a response. Since then, I have contacted the HLTH 102 course team, Arts and Science Academic Advising, and the SKHS Undergraduate Chair, all of whom directed me to submit this formal petition.

I confirm that the work I am submitting is the original coursework I completed during the term. I am also happy to provide any additional supporting material, such as timestamps or drafts, to verify that the work was completed and submitted on time.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope this petition will be reviewed with the understanding that this outcome was the result of a technical and communication issue — not a lack of effort or academic engagement.
