Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am petitioning for a late course drop for PSYC 100 Principles of Psychology BL FW24/25 and HLTH 102 Personal Health and Wellness W25. In the academic year 2024/5, there were extenuating circumstances beyond my control that prevented me from dropping these courses by the deadline. In the summer of 2024, I suffered an acute psychotic episode, for which I had to be hospitalized for a number of weeks. Since that time, I have been in recovery, which involved some cognitive recovery. An important aspect of that recovery was being on the anti-psychotic medication Abilify from June 2024 onwards. Among the side effects of Abilify are difficulties maintaining focus. I believe and the cognitive recovery and the treatment of medication adversely affected my academic performance and my ability to keep track of deadlines for dropping courses. I have included a supporting letter from my psychiatrist at Heads Up, the Early Psychosis Intervention Program at KHSC Hotel Dieu Site. I am committed to improving my academic performance this year and being able to have late course drops for PSYC 100 - Principles of Psychology BL FW24/25 and HLTH 102 Personal Health and Wellness W25 would help enormously.
Thank you
