Petition Letter: Hello,
I am writing to address the academic status of Kirrthy Kugapalan (Student Number: 20118454). I was placed on academic suspension for a period of three years beginning last year. This significant decline in academic performance was primarily due to a series of undiagnosed medical conditions I was experiencing at the time.
In September, I began showing symptoms of advanced gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including a persistent cough. During exam season, my condition worsened to include chronic chest tightness. Living alone in my apartment, combined with exam week, led to a severe panic attack just days before my winter term exams. I was rushed to the hospital under the belief I was experiencing a heart attack. These panic attacks, along with the ongoing chest tightness, persisted for several months and were only correctly diagnosed as GERD after multiple medical visits.
Additionally, I was diagnosed with early-stage Dupuytren’s contracture during this period—a separate but chronic and incurable condition that caused significant hand pain. At the same time, I was also suffering from chronic headaches due to shoulder tension. The combination of stomach pain, hand pain, and persistent headaches led to severe anxiety and brain fog, which significantly impaired my ability to concentrate and perform academically.
Over the past year, I have attended therapy, received appropriate medical treatment, and reached a much more stable and manageable state of health. I am fully committed to my academic success and feel confident in my ability to complete my studies.
If required, I am willing to provide documentation from my healthcare providers to support the information provided above. I respectfully request permission to resume my studies in the upcoming fall semester.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely, Kirrthy Kugapalan
