Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to request a re-enrollment in CLST 205 for the Summer 2025 term. Due to ongoing mental health challenges that have significantly impacted my academic performance during the term, which are outlined in my supporting documentation from my counselor, I was unable to meet several key deadlines for the course. Due to this, I realized that passing the course was no longer possible and, unaware of the option to apply for an incomplete grade, I made the decision to drop the class before the academic penalty deadline.
These mental health challenges spanned the duration of the course and directly affected four major components of the coursework that I did not complete: two discussion assignments, a debate, and a presentation. Since dropping the class, I have consulted with my course instructor, and we have agreed on a plan to complete the outstanding coursework by August 31st. This timeline would give me roughly two weeks per assignment, which I believe is a manageable and realistic schedule under my current circumstances.
I am fully committed to completing the course requirements to the best of my ability and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to do so. Please let me know if any further documentation or steps are required.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Samuel Valdez

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I have discussed how I will complete the outstanding coursework with my professor, and we agreed that August 31st would be a sufficient and fair deadline. I will have completed all of my other enrolled courses by the end of July. This means that throughout the month of August, I will be able to dedicate my full academic focus to CLST 205. With only this course remaining, I will have the time and mental bandwidth to meet the extended deadline of August 31st. This schedule provides me with approximately two weeks per assignment, which I believe is both reasonable and manageable.
In addition, I have sought support from Student Wellness Services and began meeting with my counselor. I am continuing to work with this counselor to manage my ADHD and anxiety-related symptoms, and I will maintain regular sessions throughout the summer to ensure that I stay on track with my academic goals. With these supports in place, and with a significantly lighter workload in August, I am confident that I will be able to complete the outstanding coursework for CLST 205 without further difficulty.
