Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello, I'm writing this petition letter for the chance to waive the deadline for dropping courses and I would like to drop the course IDIS 199.

I was put into a very rough position today. Today was my exam for IDIS 199, and since it was on proctorU I had issues connecting to my exam. Due to these issues persisting, I was unable to join my exam room since I was stuck connecting to the room, and I am unable to take the exam, worth 40% of my grade, which will just fail my grade in that course.

But this is where the real issue is. Since I cannot take my final exam, I will fail the class, which will put me in an even worse position. I currently have a GPA of 1.78, so if I fail this class, it will drop me into academic probation, which can lead to my being kicked out of the school for this mistake. I truly don't think this is fair. I have used proctorU so many times on this computer with the same internet connection, and I have never had issues before.

I understand not giving me the opportunity to rewrite the exam; however, I am just asking for the opportunity to drop this summer class or even just re-take it next semester so I will not be kicked out of the school. I have already been struggling academically ever since my mom passed away, which has made it almost next to impossible for me to recover my GPA after she passed.

I would just like to know my options at the moment. I am currently waiting for Dr. Duffy and Dr. Cunningham to reply to my original email stating if that I can retake this exam at a later assigned time, or if they tell me no, I am unsure of what will happen to me.

I tried to call the IT support, but they were unhelpful to me at the time; they told me to use the chatbox and to email the DBMS team. However, both of these were also unsuccessful. The people in the chatbox told me to contact the DBMS team, but since I wasn't already connected to my exam on time, they couldn't do anything to help me.

If you can please grant me this deadline waiver so I can drop this class and continue being a student here at Queen’s, that would mean the world to me. I truly don’t think going on academic probation because of a connection issue is fair; however, I’m still waiting to see if the professors for the IDIS 199 course will reply to my email.

Please let me know what my options are. I’m pretty stressed right now.
