Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate dean
I am writing this petition because I need your help, mercy and consideration. Due to my accommodations not being approved on time I have failed 2 of my classes and Got a D+ in my Cisc 102 class. I have since retaken one of those classes and got a B+ in an effort to mitigate some of the damage to my gpa. I was looking to drop my failed class Math 112, so I have the chance to make up for my shortcomings at a later date without it affecting my gpa. As for my Cisc 102 I do really need help there as it is a prerequisite for my second year classes such as cisc 203 and cisc 204. The reason why I got below the prerequisite requirement of a C- is because of the format of the course which was 3 tests that made up 75% of your grade which is not an issue however these tests had a time limit of 50 minutes which left students without accommodations struggling to finish it much less a student like me which has ADHD and require more time to finish tests compared to a normal student. Since this class was in the first term I was struggling to get the proper documentation to get valid accommodations and should I have had them I am confident that I would have done 2% better overall, boosting me from a D+ to a C- and I would have fulfilled the prerequisite requirement. I contacted QSAS and they said they are willing to provide a letter of support regarding this matter. I am asking for a credit standing in the class so it will fufill the prerequisite requirement of cisc 203 and 204 should I not get this credit standing it will delay my graduation by a year and my family finances simply cannot afford this as I come from a household of a single mom of 2 (this is shown both in my osap bursaries application and my queens application and I will provide documents if necessary). Moreover in the winter I did poorly in 3 of my classes as well. Due to the financial pressures from my family I have to graduate in four years and therefore to go into 2nd year I needed 24 credits so I unfortunately decided to take 6 classes. As I’m struggling with ADHD which causes me to lack focus the Teaching Assistants go on strike which causes students resources to drop and for one of my classes that had a tutorial component, which was taught by a teaching Assistant, the class was cancelled. In term 2 I had 1 failed class and 2 classes which I performed poorly due to the issues mentioned above. I do believe that a student has a responsibility to perform to the best of their abilities and not simply complain and file petition which is why I retook the class that failed which was cogs 100 in the summer and got an A- I also took another class and got a A to hopefully mitigate some of the damaged caused by the caused by the classes I performed poorly in. I am also requesting a credit standing for 2 of my term 2 classes which are STAT 263 and CLST 103. I come to you in a time of need and desperation looking to hopefully mitigate some of the damage I have done and I have shown initiative in me personally working hard during the summer to mitigate some of the damage myself but I also need help from the university administration to hopefully graduate on time and with a good academic standing.
Thanks for your time
