Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I respectfully request a Credit Standing (CR) for MICR 386 due to extenuating circumstances that significantly impacted my academic performance during the final exam period.

At the beginning of the winter term, in January, I became ill and was unable to write several of my scheduled deferred exams. As a result, these exams were moved to the April final exam period. This unexpected shift created a hefty and condensed exam schedule for me, which severely affected my ability to perform to the best of my academic potential. While I had prepared diligently throughout the term, the burden of managing multiple exams within a short time frame placed additional strain on my health, personal well-being, and overall capacity to manage exam season.

This strain inevitably affected more than just my academics; it also impacted my personal life and mental health during an already stressful period. The combination of illness, rescheduled exams, and personal challenges during the exam season made it difficult to maintain the focus and balance needed to perform at my best. As a result, I received a final grade in MICR 386 that does not adequately represent my academic ability or the level of understanding I had demonstrated throughout the semester.

I have previously spoken with my professor in STAT 263 regarding these same circumstances, and they recommended that I pursue a petition for a CR. After reviewing my situation, my petition for a CR in STAT 263 was granted, recognizing that the illness and rescheduled exams were factors beyond my control that compromised my performance. I believe the same considerations apply to MICR 386.

I want to emphasize that this request is not due to a lack of effort or commitment on my part, but rather the result of circumstances outside my control that coincided with the most critical time of the semester. I believe a CR is the fairest resolution in this situation, as it acknowledges the work I put into the course while recognizing that the outcome does not accurately reflect my academic ability due to factors beyond my control.
