Petition Requesting to Drop the Course(s) Deadline:

Good Afternoon, I hope this email finds you well.

I have successfully submitted my first petition #13398, requesting to drop the petition deadline (which I have attached in the document section of this submission for your review). I now write to you with the hope of dropping the course(s) deadline to drop a course. The 2022 Fall and 2023 Winter years were not representative of who I am as a student or person. I had been dealing with trauma and was experiencing an immense amount of depression; therefore was not in the frame of mind to make important decisions for myself, such as dropping courses. I was hardly able to deal with external factors during this time, let alone internal ones, at university. I specifically recall struggling to obtain help or accommodations throughout my journey in the Psychology department and courses, as well as this HLTH course. I felt like I wasn't being heard or understood; therefore, I was unable to succeed or get the help I needed. As I tried to keep up with my coursework, the alienation I felt and my depression all prevented me from being able to make informed decisions about my academic standing in these courses at Queens University.

I am requesting that my 2024/2025 course grade history be considered as you make your decision regarding my request. My current grades are the outcome of perseverance and the help I have received through attending therapy and working with coping mechanisms throughout this tragedy I experienced. I was a student with unaided ADHD (at the time), experiencing grief, in an environment that favoured normalcy, neoliberal structures and learning patterns.

Thank you for taking the time to review my case, and I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Jessica Ferguson
