Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean ,

I am writing to respectfully request a short deferral for my upcoming exam due to a sudden illness.

Earlier this week, I traveled to Kingston to clean my student house after it had been occupied by mice over the summer. Unfortunately, the extensive cleaning and stress seem to have triggered a severe respiratory illness. By Tuesday, September 2nd, I was already experiencing chest tightness, fever, and fatigue. Today I was able to see my family doctor, who renewed my puffer prescription and provided antibiotics if my cough persists past the weekend, as she believes this is viral in nature.

I want to emphasize that I was fully prepared to write this exam and have been committed to doing well in this course. However, in my current condition, I am only able to manage my fever with painkillers and find it extremely difficult to do anything beyond resting. Attempting the exam while this unwell would not reflect my actual preparation or ability, and I fear it would result in a grade far below what I am capable of.

This course is essential for my graduate school plans, and I am determined not to drop it. I would much rather complete the exam when I am well enough to perform to my true potential. If absolutely necessary, I will write while sick, but I strongly believe that granting me a short deferral would be the most reasonable and fair outcome for both my health and my academic performance. I do not require a lengthy extension, just enough time to recover over the next few days.

Thank you very much for your understanding and consideration of this request.
