Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hi,

I am writing this to request permission to add a fifth course to my current course load. This petition is because I want the unique experience of going on exchange in Europe while also being able to continue with my long-term academic goals. I want to gain the invaluable personal and educational experience of studying in another country, but in order to make this possible without delaying my graduation, I need to ensure I have enough credits completed in advance. Without being allowed to add this extra course, I would risk falling behind and might not be able to graduate on time at the end of my fourth year. Being on exchange is more than just an opportunity to travel, it represents a central part of my education and growth. Studying in a new cultural environment will allow me to experience different teaching methods, challenge myself with unfamiliar academic materials, and engage with perspectives that I would not experience at Queens. Beyond the classroom, the experience of adapting to a new culture will strengthen my independence, adaptability, and ability to thrive in diverse settings. These are skills that will be valuable to me beyond graduation. I have been planning carefully, and having a fifth course will help me be able to fully participate in the exchange program and still finish my degree on time. I know that without this extra course, I will not be able to have a great experience on study abroad and stay on track to graduate after my fourth year. If I am able to add this fifth course, I will be able to go on exchange fully prepared, knowing that my degree requirements are still on track. I want to make the most of my education, and I believe that exchange will strengthen the value of my education while preparing me for life after graduation. I have been looking forward to exchange since getting to university, and the ability it gives to go beyond my familiar setting and experience things that are outside my comfort zone. But I know I would not be able to enjoy the full experience if I returned from studying abroad and was behind in credits, making me unable to graduate. I am doing this to know I will both have an amazing experience on exchange and come back and have graduation. In conclusion, I am asking for permission to add a fifth course so that I can balance my academic and personal goals. Studying abroad offers me the chance to experience new cultures, perspectives, and ideas in a way that will make my education better. At the same time, I remain committed to completing my degree on time, and adding this course is important to make that happen. I am grateful for this opportunity and hope you will allow me to take this opportunity on my academic journey.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: My academic goal is to complete my degree on time while also gaining the unique experience of participating in an exchange program in Europe. I am currently enrolled in my desired degree plan in Philosophy and have reviewed my academic advisement report in Solus to confirm my remaining requirements. To stay on track, I am requesting to add a fifth course to my semester abroad. I will be taking philosophy courses that directly fulfill my program requirements so that I can return from exchange fully prepared to complete my fourth year without delay. In terms of workload, I plan to be a full-time student at the school I will be attending abroad. I understand that a full course load requires approximately 15-20 hours of class time and additional hours of independent work each week. I have successfully managed to do this in my past semesters at Queens, so I am confident I can do it while abroad. Adding a fifth course ensures I can focus on exploring new subjects abroad while knowing I have completed the necessary credits to graduate on time at Queens. To support my success, I will make proactive use of my campus resources, I will attend my classes, show up to Professor and TA office hours if I have questions, and talk to someone on academic services if that is available to me abroad. I will also check in with my academic advisor to confirm I remain aligned with Philosophy plan requirements. By staying organized and prioritizing my coursework, I will ensure I can meet my academic goals while preparing for exchange.
