Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am petitioning to be enrolled in PSYC 336 (Adult Clinical). I joined the waitlist during my initial course selection time and checked it daily. Yesterday, I was first on the list but did not get in before the add/drop deadline. Shortly after the deadline, a student dropped the course, which meant that if this had happened just a bit earlier, I would have been enrolled. I reached out to Anja Wilke, the Psychology Undergraduate Assistant, who confirmed that a space is now available in the course and that I should submit a petition to join it late.

Because of my late course selection time, I was not able to register for psychology courses that fit my interests or program requirements. This semester, I am taking two Cognitive courses, which is the area I am least interested in. In particular, I have been struggling in PSYC 325 (Cognitive Neuroscience), as I did not take Brain and Behaviour last year and do not have the background needed to succeed. With the first exam already scheduled for next week, I cannot catch up on both the prerequisite material and the new course content at the same time. I had already set up a swap to move from PSYC 325 into PSYC 336 if a space became available, and I would like to proceed with that swap now.

Enrolling in PSYC 336 would give me a course that better aligns with my academic interests, provides the credits I need, and sets me up for success.
