Petition to Add Courses After the Official Deadline
Dear Associate Dean,
I am submitting this petition to respectfully request permission to add courses after the last official date for adding classes. I recognize that the deadline has passed, and I am filing this petition within the required five business days, two days after the deadline. I would be grateful to be accepted into at least four of the requested courses or five for a full course load.
Due to significant extenuating circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to register for courses by the deadline. As an online student, my options for course selection were limited this semester. When registration opened on August 17th, very few online courses were available to me. I sought guidance from Academic Advising and spoke with Sandra Irvine, who informed me that a letter had been sent about the phasing out of online courses. Unfortunately, I never received this communication, which further restricted my ability to plan and register on time.
Additionally, I experienced unexpected financial barriers that prevented timely registration. I was unaware that my Winter semester OSAP funding had not been fully covered, which left me with an outstanding balance of approximately $900. Until I was able to resolve this balance, I could not register for new courses. Given that in previous years my semesters had always been fully covered, I did not anticipate this issue, and it caught me off guard.
Compounding these challenges, I have recently lost my job and have been dealing with family matters this past year, which has added considerable stress and anxiety to my situation. These circumstances collectively impacted my ability to register before the deadline, despite my intention to continue progressing in my degree.
I deeply value my education and am eager to continue making progress toward completing my degree. I respectfully ask for the Faculty’s understanding of the extenuating circumstances that prevented my timely registration and for approval to add courses after the deadline.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Zoe Gough

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I am committed to resolving these challenges and ensuring my academic success moving forward. The outstanding financial balance has now been addressed, and I am prepared to register for courses immediately if granted permission, and catch up on the work that I have missed. I will also maintain regular communication with Academic Advising to ensure that I am aware of changes to online course availability and important deadlines in the future. Additionally, I am actively seeking new employment to stabilize my financial situation and reduce stress, allowing me to fully focus on my studies.
