Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hi, my name is Tristan and I’m in my last year of studies here at Queen’s. My major is PPE with a specialization in Economics, and this fall term I had the opportunity to take an elective. I decided I wanted to take Music 288, because besides my passion for economics, I like guitar a lot too. Unfortunately, this fell through because I am not a music major, and after being strung along for the first two weeks on the hope that I could make it into the class, the professor unfortunately had to cap the course because two guitar majors were offered the class before me (which makes sense). However, this was very unfortunate for me, as I was hoping to take this as my 5th class. Because of this, I only had a couple days to decide on another class to take, and it was really hard because most were full or didn’t fit with my schedule. So I decided on an English class, English 238, because it was one of the few classes that both fit my schedule and was open that I found. However, literally the day after the add drop period ended, I serendipitously struck up a lovely conversation with Anya Hageman, the professor of the class right before my class in the same room. We got to talking and I realized I would love to be in her course, and she told me it was open and that she would like me to join. Unfortunately, this was right after the add drop deadline, which was very frustrating for me because I would so much rather be in this class then the English one, as it not only more interesting but much more in line with my major, and it is my last year to be able to take it. So my desire is simply to drop this English class and switch into the economics class. I promise that I would do my very best in it even though I have missed the first two weeks, as I’m a hard working student with a 3.9 GPA, and more importantly Anya herself told me that joining the class now would not impede my ability to do well in any way, and encouraged me to contact you to join it. I don’t want to waste any of your time by asking to join the class in a lot of different ways, so I’ll end it here.
